INTRODUCTION: Natural and human-made disasters, including climate change, pandemics, other hazards such as earthquake flooding can have considerable negative impact on all communities in Aotearoa New Zealand. This article uses a case study approach to describe the experiences reflections of social workers relation disaster practice. METHODS: phase research project included semi-structured interviews with 11 registered who had been involved management The studies were examined using thematic analysis identify key themes. draws four grouped together after analysis, enabling detailed exploration experiences. FINDINGS: Analysis identified that transferable skills knowledge are important for practice; effective connecting individuals communities; improved professional relationships, systems, processes required so community is better supported following future events. IMPLICATIONS: Social practise locally but situated within an international context underpinned by global definitions, agendas, goals.
